Continental Divide's 2011 Prayer Walk Initiative
Continental Divide Baptist Association is planning a great mission opportunity that would be suitable for churches from Colorado and nearby states. They are inviting Prayer Walking Teams to walk and pray in Crestone, CO, a place of mysticism and spirituality where many who follow new age philosophies and Eastern religions have come together. They believe that Crestone is a place of "convergence," where the physical and spiritual worlds meet. Associational Missionary, Phil Langley also believes this is a place of "Convergence," where Christianity meets many differing philosophies.
The influence of the various spiritual enclaves in Crestone has always been obvious, but this became very evident during the Carnival/VBS event this past summer. A church event held for the community proved to be unexpected by the residents of Crestone.
Judy Langley has prepared a Prayer Walk Kit with training materials for groups coming to Crestone: information on Crestone, prayer walk training, required reading recommendations as well as a virtual prayer walk (in Power Point form). She says that Prayer Walking is heavy duty, demanding, and no easy task. "There will have to be spiritual preparation if groups are to be prepared for this kind of sowing and cultivating activity. This is not a harvesting event! It is an opportunity to love and pray for the people of Crestone. We pray that the people of Crestone will see God’s Love in us as we serve.
Any church that believes God is leading them to join in this Kingdom undertaking can contact the CDA office at plangley@cdabaptist.org. Church Missions Teams, Christian Challenge student groups and even family groups are encouraged to consider this ministry opportunity. This could be a Spring Break or a summer vacation that truly makes a difference in Crestone, across the San Luis Valley, in God's Kingdom and in your own church.
