Raising Up Harvesters

By Mark Edlund

After this the Lord appointed seventy-two others and sent them on ahead of him, two by two, into every town and place where he himself was about to go. And he said to them, “The harvest is plentiful, but the laborers are few. Therefore pray earnestly to the Lord of the harvest to send out laborers into his harvest.” Luke 10:1-2

In Luke 9:1 – 6, Jesus gives his 12 disciples instructions and sends them on a mission trip. And then in Luke 10 he sends out a 72-man army of indigenous disciples with basically the same instructions as He gave the 12 in the chapter before. However there is one additional instruction. He instructed them to pray for yet more harvesters.

For several years now a number of us have set our phones to vibrate at 10:02. When that reminder comes we stop what we are doing and pray the Luke 10:2b prayer: “We pray earnestly to the Lord of the harvest to send out laborers into his harvest.” This is a prayer for the Lord to raise up harvesters in Colorado. Granted, some will come from outside the state, but mostly we pray that God would raise up indigenous believers who will sow the Gospel abundantly in their local communities.  Read more
