Real Problems, Real Girls
If you follow statistics about teen girls today, they are not pretty. The numbers include anything from dieting and eating disorders to poor self-image, cutting issues and everything in between. Girls, right here in Colorado have to deal with real problems. CHRISTIAN girls, right here in Colorado have to deal with REAL problems.
17 year-old Tabitha, a junior in high school, says that self image is the toughest thing in high school. “Not measuring up and wanting to be liked is hard.”
Sixth grader Sarah agrees. “Some girls wear name-brand clothes and make a really big deal about it. It’s hard on me because my parents can’t buy all that stuff.”
“The definition of me is supposed to be Jesus, but that doesn’t always happen. High school is vicious,” states Katie, a 14 year-old freshman. “There’s so much drama and hormones. Being accepted by people just gets in the way.”
Thirteen year-old Rachel has been bullied ever since kindergarten. “It’s hard to be different, but you have to realize everyone is.”
During the Define Weekend, professional counselors were on-hand to deal with issues ranging from eating disorders to abuse. While the weight of living in a sinful culture engulfs girls every day, many are relying on God for strength.
“I was reminded about how much the world defines us, 15 year-old Alexis said. “But, I’ve learned to let God define me.”
Please continue to pray for girls to allow God to define their lives.
