Student Learns to Live Outside Her Comfort Zone

Colorado School of Mines Christian Challenge
Golden—Amanda is a junior at the Colorado School of Mines and a young woman with a heart for God. She grew up knowing and loving God, but recently He placed in her a deeper passion and desire to share the good news with other students. She’s on our Christian Challenge leadership team and is leading a freshmen study, and yet she desires to do more.
During a one-on-one time with Amanda, I asked her if she had shared her testimony with anyone lately. She answered no and said she was too nervous to share. I encouraged her to write down her story and start practicing it with me during our meetings. After a few tries she was ready (albeit very nervous) to share how God had changed her life.
We roamed the campus one day looking for the right person to talk to. After a few failed attempts, we finally walked into the student center and saw one girl sitting by herself. Taking a deep breath, we approached her and asked if she had time and was willing to listen to our life stories. Surprisingly the girl said yes! Amanda nervously started to share her story with this girl named Katie.
As I watched Amanda trust God and go beyond her comfort zone, I was also able to see Katie take a genuine interest in Amanda’s story. After finishing up her story, Amanda then asked Katie about her view of God. It was so encouraging to hear Katie open up and share her view on God. She, like many other college students, believed there was a God, but was too busy to let Him be part of her daily life.
We exchanged phone numbers, and now Katie has been contacting Amanda! She’s called Amanda to see what events she could be part of and has shared that her schedule is free next semester to attend our large group meetings. What a blessing to see Amanda take an opportunity to get outside her comfort zone and share Christ and to see Katie turn around and show interest in pursuing God! We’re praying that Katie will continue desiring to pursue God deeper next semester.
